Spring 1999-
My day starts early.  At 4 am my new human wakes me up to eat.  Then she makes me take my medicine.  I sure have to take a lot of pills!  Then she carries me outside to go potty (I am starting to walk outside by myself some times now).  After she carries me back in, I get to walk around in the kitchen for a bit while she changes the bedding in my crate.  Then I go back to sleep while she washes the blood off the floor.  At 6 she wakes me to feed me, but this time I get to eat in my crate.  She feeds me by hand.  At 8 she wakes me again, takes my temperature and I get up.  This time when I am done eating I have to get a bath.  My new human has to soak all of my scabs and try to get them all off.  It takes about 45 minutes.  Then she puts a nice rinse on me and I get out of the bath.  While I am drying, she's washing and changing my linens and disinfecting my crate.  By now it's 10 and I have to eat again.  Now I get some stuff on me to help my skin and I have my pyodermas hot packed.  Then I get to lie in a bed on the porch with my new pal, Merlin.  The cats usually come and visit me now too.  Soon it's noon and I have to eat and have my medicine again.  My new human changes my linens and I can choose if I want to sleep in the porch or in my crate.  At two I'm up to eat and take my temperature again (and sometimes if I need it, I get another bath).  New linens again and I'm in for a nap.  I'll eat in my crate at 4 and then at 6 I'm up to eat with the whole family.  Now I get my body checked all over to see if I need anything put on it.  I go out to go potty and then I'm back to sleep in my nice clean bed.  At 8 I'm eating again, getting my meds and she's after me with that thermometer again!! I usually get rinsed off now and then I like to stay up for a while.  I'll eat, have my bed changed, and get meds 2 more times before I get tucked into my crate at midnight.  I'm getting stronger every day!!here to add your text.

Today at the vet Sebby weighed in at 73 pounds!!   Up fromtthe 58 pounds he weighed when he first came into rescue.  The vet says another 5-10 pounds and he'll be where he should be.

Sebby is getting fairly filled out....not much showing in the way of ribs anymore (shouldn't be he eats all the time).  He has clearly defined toes and most of his swelling is almost all the way down.  His joints are beginning to look normal, his spine is straight and his head is UP.  He's had two clorox/bluing/baby soap dips and he is not seeping, barely bleeding, his scabs are mostly gone, and the huge craters on his body are closing and healing.  He has fuzzy white hair on the top of his head and he is beginning to get some on his front legs as well. He is growing a few tufts of hair on his neck and back.  Play wears him out and makes him bleed, but he still needs it!  He is a leaper!! He is also a "talker" - barks protectively and at the dog on the TV.  Talks in his sleep and when he plays.  Now knows and responds to his name...doesn't like taking his meds, but cooperates because he knows chicken livers are coming after...HATES being dipped...he knows "no," "come," "easy," and is learning "sit" (not easy to do when you cringe at the thought of putting too much pressure on him to get his butt down).  He is a total INSIDE dog now (preferring it to the outdoors)... will NOT go out in the rain.  He's VERY affectionate!  Medically, he's 4 days into his second week of Ivomec...at the start of the second week we attempted to up his dose from 200 mcg/kg to 300, but he had what might have been a reaction to that, so we've dropped him down.  He's still on the Cepahlexin (1,000 mg q.i.d), Antirobe (150 mg q.id), Metronidazole (250 mg q.i.d).  When he needs it he gets Benadryl, although we are considering using it to quiet him down a bit.  His pads are pretty calloused for a little guy, including "fringes," and he's got callouses on his elbows as well. Juggling his schedule is interesting because he's got every 8 hour meds and every 12 hour meds and the Ivomec, which needs to be given without any meds either 2 hours before or after.  He's also got the dips which need to be done so that he's dry and he's been reaction free for a reasonable amount of time before any Ivomec is given.

January 2002-
Sebby now weighs 180 pounds!!  He has bad knees that are beginning to bother him.  He is currently getting acupuncture and chiropractic adjustments to make him feel more comfortable. Surgery on his knees is not an option due to his other health problems.  He is on the maximum amount of Ivomec that he can take without dangerous side effects.  He will be on the Ivomec for the rest of his life to control his demodex.  Even though he has been through so much neglect and abuse, he is very affectionate and trusting of people.  He really loves to play with his Dane buddies!!Click here to add your text.
